Malte Spitz data retention

Unlike citizens of the United States, the German Green Party politician Malte Spitz successfully sued his privacy-invading message-interceptors (in his case, T-Mobile, not his government) for six months of his mobile-device metadata. This metadata had been captured and stored under an implementation of an EU directive. The implementation was later deemed unconstitutional.

Spitz’s recent New York Times op-ed, “Germany Loved Obama. Now We Don’t Trust Him.” is an account of his experience and a spot-on analysis of how the United States is destroying its credibility isolating itself.

Read the op-ed; it’s well worth your time. Then watch Zeit Online’s amazing animated data-visualization of Spitz’s metadata.
